There are 4 simple steps to integrate PlayPosit with your Moodle course.

  1. Set up PlayPosit in Moodle
  2. Assign a graded bulb to students
  3. Monitor student responses
  4. Sync grades to Moodle gradebook
  5. Embedding bulbs

Why use PlayPosit in Moodle?

  1. Single Sign-on: Instructors and learners are never prompted to enter a separate email, username or password to create or view content.
  2. Auto-sync course data: We manage learner-course relationships, eliminating the need to manually create courses or upload rosters.
  3. Auto-sync grades: Learner grades are synced immediately with the Moodle gradebook at the end of a bulb. As well, instructors can access the rich analytics from any PlayPosit link within Moodle.

Set up PlayPosit in Moodle

  1. Login to Moodle and navigate to the course you would like to connect to PlayPosit.
  2. Select Add an activity or resource.
  3. Select External tool from the Activities menu and click Add.
  4. Enter an Activity Name (required).
  5. Select PlayPosit or Interactive Video from the Preconfigured tool drop-down menu.
  6. (Optional, but recommended) Select New Window from the Launch Container menu. This can be accessed by clicking on Show more... at the bottom of the General section.
  7. Scroll down and click Save and return to course.
  8. From within your course, find and click on the PlayPosit assignment you just created. Then, Get Started to access PlayPosit.

Assign a graded bulb to students

  1. Login to Moodle and navigate to the course you would like to connect to PlayPosit.
  2. Select Add an activity or resource.
  3. Select External tool from the Activities menu and click Add.
  4. General settings:
    1. Enter the name of your lesson for Activity Name.
    2. Select PlayPosit from the drop-down as the External Tool Type. It may also show as Interactive Video or another term.
    3. (Optional, but recommended) Select New Window from the Launch Container menu .
  5. Privacy settings:
    1. Name and Email are required to be shared
    2. Optional: check Accept grades if you want PlayPosit to export student scores into the Moodle gradebook
  6. Enter Grade and Activity completion settings.
  7. Scroll down and click Save and Display.
  8. Click the link you just created and then click Get Started. PlayPosit will open and you will see your bulbs library.
  9. Locate the bulb you want. Click on the triple dot menu, and then click Set bulb link.
  10. Select the learner experience:
    1. Self-paced - Choose this option if you want students to take the bulb individually, on their own device, at their own time (most commonly used).
    2. Broadcast - Choose this option if you want to project the bulb live, in class, and have all students take the bulb together. Start/Stop time and pacing of the video is controlled by the instructor, while students answer projected questions from their own device (like a clicker). Learn more here.
  11. There should be a notification at the top confirming that the lesson has been assigned to students.

Monitor student responses

In Moodle, click on the assignment for which you want to view data. This will open PlayPosit Setup, which will show the PlayPosit bulbs you have linked to this assignment. Click Monitor to view student participation and responses.

Sync grades to Moodle gradebook

If your bulb only includes auto-graded questions (multiple choice, check-all-that-apply, fill-in-the-blank), then student grades will be automatically exported into the Moodle gradebook
If you have graded free-response questions or edited grades for auto-graded questions, you will need to sync changes with the Moodle gradebook. To do this:
  1. Navigate to the assignment's Question-By-Question Breakdown page by clicking on the Moodle Assignment you want to sync grades for, and then clicking Monitor.
  2. On the Question-By-Question Breakdown dashboard, click Sync to check the status of the student grade export. Note: It may take a few minutes to push all updated scores into the gradebook.

Embedding bulbs

The PlayPosit/Moodle LTI integration does not support embedding bulbs using an embed code.

If instructors choose to use the embed code:

  • Students will be prompted to sign into PlayPosit with a username/password
  • Grades will not auto-sync from PlayPosit to Canvas
