For Admin: Install PlayPosit in LMS

IMPORTANT NOTES:
  • LMS integrations are only included for PlayPosit clients with institutional licenses. Please contact partnerships@playposit.org for more information on the institutional license.

In this article

Before instructors can use PlayPosit, it must be configured globally for your LMS by an administrator. Please find instructions specific to your LMS below. As soon as the global configuration is complete, instructors can start pulling PlayPosit into their courses. Details about how they do this are here.

    Register PlayPosit Tool

    1. Navigate to System Admin -> Integrations -> LTI Tool Providers
    2. Click Register Provider Domain
    3. For Provider Domain, enter www.playposit.com
    4. Make sure the Provider Domain is Approved
    5. Under Default Configuration, check Set globally
    6. Enter your Tool Provider Key and Tool Provider Secret (provided by PlayPosit)
    7. For Send User Data, select Send user data only over SSL
    8. For User Fields in Course, select Role in Course, Name, Email Address
    9. Submit
    10. Navigate to the LTI Tool Providers page and select Manage Placements from the dropdown menu
    11. Click Create Placement
    12. Enter a Label (for example: “PlayPosit”). This will be the name that appears in the user interface
    13. Enter a Handle. This must be unique in your database, and it will not be visible to end users
    14. For Course Content Tool, select Supports Deep Linking
    15. Opt to have it Launch in a New Window (recommended)
    16. For Tool Provider URL, enter https://www.playposit.com/LTI/launch
    17. Ensure the key and secret are correct, and then Submit

    Canvas (Deep Linking)

      IMPORTANT NOTES:
      • Note: If you have more than one instance of an LMS (e.g. staging and production environments), or more than one LMS, please ask your account manager for a new key and secret.
    1. Click Settings in the menu on the left
    2. Click Apps
    3. Click View App Configurations
    4. Click Add New App
    5. Set the Configuration Type to By URL
    6. Title the configuration (for example: "PlayPosit") 
    7. Enter the Consumer Key and Shared Secret (provided by PlayPosit)
    8. For Config URL, enter https://www.playposit.com/canvascontentlti.xml
    9. Set Privacy to Public.
    10. Click Submit 

    D2L/Brightspace

      IMPORTANT NOTES:
      • Note: If you have more than one instance of an LMS (e.g. staging and production environments), or more than one LMS, please ask your account manager for a new key and secret.
    1. Enable CIM
      1. By default,  the Content-Item Message (CIM) feature support is turned off. Administrators of D2L can enable this via the following config variable: d2l.Tools.Lti.ContentItemMessaging.IsEnabled - If set to true, enables support for CIM, otherwise known as deep-linking. Functions as an on/off flag to indicate whether your particular D2L instance will accept CIM-based requests.
    2. Navigate to the Admin Tools menu and select Remote Plugins
    3. From the Manage Remote Plugins page, click New Remote Plugin
    4. For Plugin Type, select Quicklink (CIM):
      1. Quicklink (CIM)-- instructors will see PlayPosit as an option when using Insert Quicklink or when creating content topics from Content.
    5. For Name, enter PlayPosit Interactive Video
    6. For Launch Point URL, enter: https://www.playposit.com/LTI/launch
    7. Input your Key and Secret (provided by PlayPosit)
    8. For Security Settings, select use link security settings and check all boxes
    9. Make sure you have made the link available globally or add to specific Org Units
    10. You'll need to enable the same settings under Manage External Learning Tool Links and Manage Tool Providers
    11. Save

    InsertStuff

    IMPORTANT NOTES:
    • Note: This is only available to clients who have an existing D2L/Brightspace integration. Please reach out to the account manager for more information.
    1. Inside a D2L/Brightspace Admin account, navigate to the Admin Tools menu and select Remote Plugins.
    2. Select New Remote Plugin and select InsertStuff as the Plugin Type. 
    • Name: PlayPosit
    • Launch Point URL: https://www.playposit.com/LTI/launch
    • LTI Key and LTI Secret: Use the Key and Secret provided by PlayPosit. If you are not sure, please reach out to help@playposit.org. Note: If installing on a staging or dev instance of the D2L, use the same credentials provided for that instance. 
    • (Optional) Description: Interactive Video
    • Icon URL: https://fastio.playposit.com/logo.png

    Lastly, make the Remote Plugin available for use in Courses throughout. Click here for more information about InsertStuff.

    itsLearning

      IMPORTANT NOTES:

    1. Click the Developer Tab > Add Application
    2. Enter the title and description of the LTI App (for example: “PlayPosit")
    3. Go to the Availability section and select My Site Only
    4. Enter the icon, home page, and technical support information for the tool provider
    5. License Details - only in itsLearning
    6. SSO Type – Use LTI 1.1
    7. Type
      1. Select Resource if the LTI link only contains content
      2. Select Learning activity without assessment if the LTI link contains activities and content
      3. Select Learning activity with assessment if the LTI link passes a score back to itsLearning
    8. Enter the key, secret, and URL of the LTI link (provided by PlayPosit)
    9. Select the Privacy settings to determine what information is sent from itsLearning to the external tool provider
    10. Click Add Application
    11. Click the Admin Tab  > Manage Apps > Default Availability
    12. Click Add App
    13. Select hierarchy (ex. entire district, all elementary schools, all middle schools, etc.). Note: The hierarchy varies by district
    14. Click Browse app library > Select PlayPosit
    15. Specify which roles should have access to the LTI link (admins, students, teachers)
    16. Click Save to enable the PlayPosit LTI link to appear at the course level for the applicable schools in the district by default

    PowerSchool

      IMPORTANT NOTES:
      • Note: If you have more than one instance of an LMS (e.g. staging and production environments), or more than one LMS, please ask your account manager for a new key and secret.
    1. Navigate to Domain Control
    2. Click the Applications tab
    3. Click on LTI Tools in the menu bar
    4. Click + Add LTI Tool
    5. Name the configuration (for example: PlayPosit)
    6. For Host, enter: https://www.playposit.com/LTI/launch
    7. Enter your Key and Secret (provided by PlayPosit)
    8. Check the Privacy box that says Share names and email addresses with tool
    9. Click Save
    10. If the tool is disabled, click on Manage Tool and select Enable

    Moodle (Deep Linking)

      IMPORTANT NOTES:
      • Note: If you have more than one instance of an LMS (e.g. staging and production environments), or more than one LMS, please ask your account manager for a new key and secret.
    1. Navigate to the Site Administration tab > Plugins > External tools > Manage tools
    2. Add a new tool
    3. For Tool Name, enter PlayPosit
    4. For Tool URL, enter https://www.playposit.com/LTI/launch
    5. Enter your consumer key and shared secret (provided by PlayPosit)
    6. For Tool configuration usage, select Show as preconfigured tool
    7. For Default launch container, select Embed, without blocks
    8. Click Show more
    9. Check the box for Content Item Message

    10. For Content Selection URL, enter https://www.playposit.com/LTI/launch
    11. Scroll down to Privacy and and select Always for all three options
    12. Save changes

    Sakai

      IMPORTANT NOTES:
      • Note: If you have more than one instance of an LMS (e.g. staging and production environments), or more than one LMS, please ask your account manager for a new key and secret.
    1. Click Administration Workspace
    2. Click External Tools
    3. Click Tools Available in System
    4. Click Add External Tool to System
    5. Enter a Tool Title (for example: “PlayPosit”)
    6. Enter a Button Text (for example: “PlayPosit”)
    7. Enter the Launch URL: https://www.playposit.com/LTI/launch
    8. Enter the Launch Key/Secret (provided by PlayPosit)
    9. Check appropriate privacy settings for your institution
    10. Check the following boxes under Releasing Roster Information and Storing Tool Settings (if applicable to your instance of Sakai):
      1. Send Names to the External Tool
      2. Send Email Addresses to the External Tool
      3. Allow the External Tool to retrieve the course roster
      4. Allow the External Tool to store and retrieve its settings
    11. Click Save

    Schoology

      IMPORTANT NOTES:
      • Note: If you have more than one instance of an LMS (e.g. staging and production environments), or more than one LMS, please ask your account manager for a new key and secret.
    1. Go to System Settings -> Integration -> External Tools
    2. Click on the Add External Tool Providers button
    3. Enter Tool Name (for example: “PlayPosit”)
    4. Enter Consumer Key and Shared Secret (provided by PlayPosit)
    5. Select Privacy settings to determine what information is sent from Schoology to the external tool provider. (name and email required)
    6. Match by URL
    7. Enter the Domain/URL (provided by PlayPosit): https://www.playposit.com/LTI/launch
    8. Leave Custom Parameters blank
    9. Click Submit

    Schoology (Deep-Linking)

    1. Access the App Center and search for "PlayPosit Institutional (LTI)." 
    2. Click Install LTI App and select I Agree.
    3. Select Add to Organization. This will take you to the Organization Apps page.
      Note: certain Schoology System Administrators may be able to install LTI apps with different credentials for each school building. This help article contains details on that process.
    4. Find the "PlayPosit Institutional (LTI)" app in the list and select Install/Remove. Select All Courses and click Submit.
    5. Click Configure and enter the Consumer Key and Shared Secret. Leave the Custom Parameters blank. 
    6. Click Save Settings.

    Google Classroom

    No extra admin configuration is needed for Google Classroom. 

    Buzz

    1. In the Admin account, select the triple dots and click Domain Settings.
    2. Scroll down to LTI Tools.
    3. Enter Host Name (for example: "PlayPosit")
    4. Enter Consumer Key and Shared Secret (provided by PlayPosit)

    Otus

    How to add the PlayPosit tool to Otus

    1. Navigate to the Control Center.
    2. Click Integrations and then click Add External Tool.
    3. Fill out the form for adding an external tool.
      1. Name your tool
      2. Enter your Company Key and Secret (provided by PlayPosit)
      3. Enter https://www.playposit.com/LTI/launch for Secure Launch URL.
      4. Set LTI Link Type to “Deep Linking.”
    4. Click Save.
