Broadcast: Class Response System

Easily replace your antiquated clickers with PlayPosit's Broadcast functionality. Project the video and audio from the front of the room, and learners are prompted with questions on their individual devices.

This allows you to:

  • Control the pacing
  • Interject with additions
  • Foster live discussion
  • Poll learner results from virtually any device

Start a Broadcast Bulb

Broadcast any bulb to deliver content synchronously.

  1. Create a PlayPosit bulb and assign it to a class. Click here for more information about creating Bulbs in 3.0.
  2. Note: learners will be able to view the assigned bulb on their learner dashboards, and may start taking the bulb before you initiate the broadcast session. We recommend assigning the bulb to a section right before you start broadcasting.
  3. In My Bulbs, locate and click on the bulb you just created, then click Broadcast.

  4. The bulb will open in a new window. Click the Copy button to copy the broadcast URL to share with your learners.

  5. You can select the following options to change the broadcast URL for different user types.
    1. Assign for professional learning - Creates a URL for instructors to take a broadcast bulb. This link type requires logging in to PlayPosit.
    2. Do not require login - Creates a URL that does not require a learner to login to PlayPosit to complete a broadcast bulb. Their response will be stored as the name that is entered at the beginning of the bulb.
    3. Do not require learner name - Creates a URL that does not require a learner to enter their name before starting the broadcast bulb. Their response will be stored in the gradebook as an anonymous name.
    4. Show QR code - A QR code will be generated and shown on screen to share with learners. This QR code will change dynamically depending on what option toggles have been selected for the broadcast. Click the image to copy the QR code into the notepad for sharing.
    5. Note: Both Do not require login and Do not require learner name can be selected at the same time. Share for professional learning and Do not require login cannot be toggled on at the same time.
  6. Once learners have all joined, click Start or Play to begin playing the bulb. Video will only play on the instructor's screen, but interactions will pop up on learner devices as the bulb progresses.

During the broadcast

Play the bulb from the instructor’s device. When the interaction appears, it will also display on the learners’ devices. Please follow the steps below to view learners’ responses in real-time.

  1. Click Show Responses to display the responses submitted by learners. The number indicates how many learners have responded to this interaction.

  2. (Optional) Instructors can also toggle on the Show names option to display learners’ names with their responses.

  3. There will also be a live graph for multiple choice, check all, and poll interaction to demonstrate learners’ responses. Click on Show Analytics to display the live graph.

  4. Click on the refresh button to refresh and show the latest data in real time.

  5. (Optional) Instructors can export the live graph by right-clicking the image to save or copy it.

Please watch the bulb to the end and see the completion screen before closing the tab to mark the bulb as complete for all learners.

Note:

  1. Broadcast is a synchronized experience, and the instructor controls the learning pace. Therefore, if the instructor moves forward before the learners complete the interaction, whether the interaction is required or not, the learners will move forward with the instructor and will not be able to submit their responses to the interaction. Also, the Bulb will be marked complete for the learners when the instructor reaches the last time stamp of the video instead of the learners completing the last interaction.
  2. The live graph is only available for some licenses, if you are interested in this feature, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager for more information.

After the broadcast

Note: In order for grades to be completed, the video must be played until the very end. As the instructor, you can scrub forward to the end since learners do not have control over playback.

Gain insights into the effectiveness of specific lessons and learn which topics, questions, and learners to target for remediation.

  1. Click the triple dots icon next to the Broadcast assignment you want to view data on.
  2. Click on Monitor to open the assignment's grade book to view learners' performance data or grade free responses.
  3. Note: Please note that if you choose to project student responses on the instructor's device, they will not be shown as anonymous as they will present with the rest of the video.

Learners' Workflow

Once learners join your Broadcast session, they will see the video on your projected screen. As the Bulb progresses, questions will appear on their individual devices when the video pauses, and will disappear when the instructor continues to play the video.

  1. Learners log in to their individual PlayPosit accounts.
  2.  Learners can navigate directly to the broadcast URL or QR code provided by their instructor.
    1. If a broadcast URL or QR code has been created with the setting for Do not require login enabled the student will need to enter in their first and last name in a pop up before starting the broadcast bulb and click Save.
    2. Learners will now wait for you to begin the bulb. They will receive questions at the appropriate time on their individual devices.
    3. As the bulb begins, the learners' screens will remain blank. When the bulb pauses for a question, it will pop up on both the learner's and instructor's screen.

Note: If a hotspot interaction is created in a bulb, learners will view the interaction as a sidebar interaction during a broadcast. If there are multiple stacked sidebar interactions, the instructor will need to manually click through from one interaction to the next in order to display each one to learners.
