Why use PlayPosit's professional learning for professional development?

PlayPosit's professional learning allows administrators to assign training materials to instructors and, at the same time, utilize the powerful features of PlayPosit to make professional developments more intuitive and effective. By adding interactions to the training materials, administrators can transform professional development from a passive learning experience into an engaging and active learning environment for instructors who are taking the training. This will make participants more focused on the training and increase their retention rate.

PlayPosit also provides numerous features to bring professional development to a higher level by creating a learning community. For example, administrators can add discussion interactions into a bulb to allow instructors to share their thoughts and respond to others' comments when taking the training. In addition, administrators can further assign  learner made bulbs and peer review sessions to the instructors to provide more autonomy for their training and allow them to review each other's works.

Most importantly, PlayPosit provides a convenient and detailed monitor page for administrators to keep track of participants' learning with the professional learning. This can help administrators gain insight into instructors' learning outcomes and any training gap that needs to be further addressed.


Create professional learning - administrators' workflow

Create a class for professional learning

  1. Access the classes page by clicking on the Classes tab on the sidebar menu.

  2. Click on Add new class.

  3. Type in the name of the class that will be used for professional learning. Administrators can also assign a color for the class to help organize the classes on this page. Then click on Save to save a new class.

Create and assign Bulbs for professional learning

  1. Please follow the instructions in this article to create a Bulb.
  2. (Optional) Change the privacy settings to private on the review tab of the Bulb designer to prevent instructors from accessing and copying the professional learning Bulb from the premade Bulb library.

  3. Click on the triple dots icon or the thumbnail image of the desired Bulb, and select Assign.

  4. On the popup window, locate the class created for professional learning, and click on the input section below to set a due date for this Bulb.

  5. Once setting the due date, a Link button will appear behind the class. Click on it to link the Bulb to the class.

  6. After linking the Bulb, it will open the Get assign link window. Click on the Advanced settings and toggle on Assign for professional learning.

  7. (Optional) Click on the QR code to copy it or click on the copy button to copy the link. Share this link or QR code with instructors, and they will automatically enroll in professional learning after clicking the link. There are two ways to enroll instructors in a professional learning class. Please see the instructions below to learn more.

Note: Administrators can also assign learner made bulbs and peer review sessions to professional learning with the workflow above. Please follow these two articles to learn more about creating learner made bulbs and peer review sessions.

Create and assign playlists for professional learning

  1. Please follow the instructions in this article to create a playlist.
  2. Click on the triple dots icon or the thumbnail image of the desired playlist, and select Assign.

  3. On the popup window, locate the class created for professional learning, and click on the input section below to set a due date for this playlist.
  4. Once setting the due date, a Link button will appear behind the class. Click on it to link the playlist to the class.

  5. After linking the playlist, it will open the Get assign link window. Click on the Advanced settings and select either of the two options below.
    1. Instructors: If all of the audiences of this professional learning playlist are instructors with an instructor account, please select this option.
    2. Instructor OR Learner: If this professional learning playlist is for both instructors and staff members, please select this option. Please note that staff members will have to create a learner account to access this playlist.

  6. (Optional) Click on the QR code to copy it or click on the copy button to copy the link. Share this link or QR code with instructors, and they will automatically enroll in professional learning after clicking the link. There are two ways to enroll instructors in a professional learning class. Please see the instructions below to learn more.

Note: After instructors complete the playlist for professional learning, they will be sent back to the Professional learning page in their instructor accounts.

Broadcast with professional learning

  1. Follow the steps above to assign a Bulb to the professional learning class.
  2. Go to My Bulbs page and find the desired Bulb when ready to broadcast. Click on the thumbnail image or the triple dots icon and select Broadcast.

  3. Select the professional learning class, and click on the Broadcast button behind it.

  4. It will open the Bulb in a new tab, toggle on Assign for professional learning, and share the link with instructors.

  5. Click on List learners to list out the instructors that have joined the broadcast. Once everyone has joined the broadcast session, click on Start to begin the live broadcast.

Note: After the Bulb is assigned to the class, instructors can take the Bulb as a regular self-paced Bulb before the administrator start broadcasting. If the administrator does not want the instructor to take the Bulb prior to the live session, we suggest only assigning the Bulb for broadcast right before the live session begins.

Monitor instructors’ learning

Administrators can monitor instructors’ progress just like the instructors monitor their learners’ learning through PlayPosit. Please follow the instructions in this article to learn more about monitoring bulbs’ activities.

Delivering and receiving options for professional learning

Option 1: Administrators upload instructors' roster

  1. Go to the Classes page and locate the professional learning class.
  2. Click on the Learners icon behind it.

  3. Select Add learners.
  4. The Add learners widow will slide out on the right side. Please use the Instructor upload learners section to add learners to the professional learning class.

  5. Fill out this blank CSV template with instructors' information, and set the password for them. Please see this article for more information on completing the learners' roster.
  6. Note: The passwords entered in the CSV file do not need to be provided by the instructors and will not change their existing passwords. Instructors can still access their accounts with their original passwords.
  7. Upload the roster by clicking on the File button. Once the file is uploaded, learners' names and emails will populate below. After reviewing the information, close the Add learner window and refresh the tab, and the learners' names will show up on the page.

  8. After administrators upload the roster, instructors will find a new tab on their sidebar menu called Professional learning. They can take the professional learning classes by clicking on the professional learning tab and selecting a class in it.

  1. Go to My Bulbs or Playlists page and find the Bulb or playlist assigned to the professional learning class. Click on the thumbnail image or the triple dots icon and select Assign.

  2. Find the professional learning class on the popup windows and click on Link behind it.

  3. Copy and share the link or the QR code with instructors.
    1. For a Bulb: Click on Advanced settings and ensure Assign for professional learning is toggled on, then copy the link or the QR code and send it to the instructors.
    2. For a playlist: Click on the Advanced settings and ensure it is set to Instructors. Then copy the link or the QR code and send it to the instructors.
  4. Instructors click on the link or scan the QR code received from administrators, and it will automatically open a new tab with the Bulb for professional learning.
  5. If instructors haven't logged in to their PlayPosit instructor account, the link will prompt them to the log-in page. Please sign in with the instructor account to enroll in the professional learning class.

Note: After instructors enroll in at least one professional learning class, there will be a new Professional learning tab on their sidebar menu. They can always revisit the Bulbs and playlists they have taken or take new Bulbs and playlists that have been added to their professional learning class by going to the professional learning page with that tab.
